This is my second entry for the "When Darkness Falls" Contest [link] by
Creating this entry I was thinking about something evil, waiting in the dark. So when darkness fall it can finally show itself. Here's the dark raven queen.
This is an amazing and well crafted photo manipulation. Lighting, composition and use of field of focus all combine to create a striking and beautiful, yet creepy image. The only area I would look to improve is towards the end of the wing on the right. The same stock of ink in water has been used twice at slightly different sizes creating duplicate shapes in the swirls of shadow between the wing and the right edge of the work. This shape repetition in the shadow swirls doesn't quite look right as you would not expect these smokey shadows to duplicate the same shape in such close proximity. Every other aspect of the work I adore. One aspect in particular is the feathers in the air close to the figure and in the foreground. They are a wonderful use of depth of focus and composition to draw the eye inwards to the center of the work and, combined with the birds, frame the figure while still contributing to the sense of motion outwards.
